How To Develop A Model Sailboat

Lilies - the earth's abundance

I've always enjoyed sailboats and everything that is related to them. They have been my passion every since I was a youngster.

The first model sailboats I had were huge and vibrant. They weren't really built after a particular vessel, nor did they preserve a coherent level. They were intended to be toys and amuse me, not a genuine representation of a boat. These model sailboats were produced of plastic that was resistant to bad treatment. The sails were produced of the same sort of inexpensive plastic that market bags are made of, so that they could be quickly replaced if damaged. And boy, did I tear mine a lot.

Once I grew up, I began to collect additional realistic model sailboats, which were centered on the sailboats I saw in the bay which was close to where I resided. In contrast to my first model sailboats, these sailboats had a scale which they respected, in order to maintain the size of a real sailboat. Those sailboats weren't they kind you had to put together; rather, they came already constructed and all set to play. I learned later on that many of these weren't meant to be put on water. Instead they came with a foundation and were meant to be placed on display. This was a strange idea to me at the time, which resulted in several of those model sailboats sinking and being lost in the bottom of the sea.

I eventually graduated from these model sailboats to the type that I had to construct and color myself. They had been a blast, and I had tons of fun using them. I started with basic ones and worked my way up to really complicated model sailboats that included little motors and even some welding.

I suppose I must not have been that bad at the passion, as my father liked one of them so much, he hang it on display on top of our fireplace. I was so proud of it, and I never ever forgot to casually mention it whenever someone came to visit. It wasn't until then that I realized why some model sailboats were designed for display, and not for placing them inside the water.

My finest achievement was when I managed to construct one that was remote controlled. I assume it was the first sailboat during my adult life in which I loved more having fun with, than assembling.

I do not assemble model sailboats any longer. I finally identified a much more expensive passion. I bought myself a genuine sailboat, which takes significantly more of my time and money that my model sailboats ever did.
